11 of 11 people found the following review helpful Needs a better design, June 6, 2011 By  Chuckie Z (Irving, TX) - See all my reviews = Durability:  This review is from: Swimways Catalina Lounge (Toy) This pool lounge does a good job at keeping you in a sitting position, but it has a few major problems. 1: The aluminum frame consists of two unconnected parts that are screwed into the white plastic pontoons. The screws are long stainless steel that won't rust and end up piercing the plastic. They caution not to use a drill on the screws to avoid stripping the plastic. The trouble is a couple screws pulled out of the plastic on its first use and the pontoons took on water. Four design changes could make it better: A full frame, longer distance between screws, totally sealed heavy plastic surrounding the the screws, or a molded receptacle for the end of the tube frame that would not allow leverage. 2: The pontoon floats are hollow plastic and are not sealed. In fact they give you screws for the pontoons to use as drain holes after use. The trouble is the screws pull out and water comes in. The pontoons have existing molded areas for more aluminum frame... It went together very easy. I did not have any problems with the screws being too long or stripping as another reviewer suggested. The chair was used all season by many people including a 300 lb fellow with no problems. Great lounger for the money. I emailed Swimways about buying a new fabric bed because the original was turning dark. They replied by sending me a new fabric bed at no charge. Great PR. It is as quick and easy to set up as I expected. Just let it pop up, blow a little air (it doesn't take much) and I'm done. My kids like to sit in the mesh as if this is a boat. Because of that, the mesh quickly started coming apart at the bottom seam. It's easy to sew up. Just beware that the mesh is not meant to bear the full weight of < 50 lb. children. I like the papasan, but sitting up in it requires I actually sit up. Any attempt to lean back renders me flat on my back, although that position can be quite comfortable. It's like floating in an inner tube, but I'm more submerged in the water. I'm 130 lbs., 5'5". This chair fits me well. My brother is 5'10". I don't know how much he weighs, but he has a muscular build. He was a little too tall or big to lay in it comfortably and for some reason, he kept tilting to one side when... This lets you sit a bit lower in the water. I prefer it on hotter days when you want to be more in the water than with the recliner. The papasan is easier to store and inflate though since it is a simpler design. Here's a video to give you an idea about how in the water you are while using it. It deflates and inflates very quickly too. With this float, you can sit or you can lay and you're always partially in the water. On a typical pool float, you're on top of the float, out of the water. With this one, part of your body is always in the water, keeping you cool and refreshed. It's very durable and we take it when ever and where ever we hit the pool.
